The Slate, the whimsical, art-inspired beachfront resort on Phuket’s secluded northwest coast, is gearing up for the return of international visitors next month, by crafting a calendar of immersive activities and events that will remind the world what makes the “Pearl of the Andaman” such a desirable and distinctive destination.
Under the quarantine-free “Phuket Sandbox” initiative, overseas guests will be able to travel to the island from 1st July 2021 onwards, as long as they have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and stay at an SHA Plus certified hotel or resort*. The Slate has been successfully certified and is now ready to treat inbound travellers to an array of exceptional experiences that embrace Phuket’s authentic art, design, culture and cuisine
Located just steps from the resort, Nai Yang Beach is a pristine paradise of soft sands and crystal clear seas
Summer Sandbox Package to Phuket
Under the Summer Sandbox package, The Slate is offering a free seventh night to customers who book a six-night stay! This promotion also includes a guaranteed upgrade for Pearl Bed Suite and D-Buk Family Suite bookings, welcome cocktails, roundtrip airport transfers, daily breakfast and 15% off all food, non-alcoholic beverages and spa treatments throughout the stay. Visitors who book a stunning Private Pool Suite, Pearl Shell Suite or Pool Villa will also receive a complimentary massage at the spectacular Coqoon Spa.
Travellers entering Thailand on an international flight under the quarantine-free Phuket Sandbox can stay for as many days as they wish, which makes it ideal for short breaks and extended vacations alike. Guests will only be able to continue their journey through the Kingdom however, after they have spent two weeks in Phuket**. To cater for this, holidaymakers who book 14 nights under The Slate’s Summer Sandbox package will pay for just 12 nights, and enjoy two nights for free!
The Slate’s industrial tin mining heritage is reflected throughout the resort, with original artworks and installations
What truly sets The Slate apart from other five-star beachfront resorts is how its story is woven into Phuket’s rich history. The hotel’s co-founder and owner, Krystal Prakaikaew Na-Ranong (or “Khun Moo” as she is known to her friends) has a family heritage that spans four generations of tin mining and tourism, the industries that have shaped Phuket’s past, present and future. Those interested in exploring The Slate’s interiors, which were conceived by acclaimed architect and designer Bill Bensley, can take the Art Journey – an intriguing, QR code-enabled tour that transports guests through this living gallery and introduces its original sculptures and installations. Regular flower arranging classes will also be launched in the third quarter of this year.
The Slate has crafted a calendar of exceptional experiences to connect international guests with their destination
Serene sensory experiences will be created at the new Scent Corner, where guests can discover the floral fragrance of white champaka, The Slate’s signature scent, and even blend their own aromatic perfume oil. Also in Q3, a British design brand will open a pop-up store, offering the chance to purchase handmade luxury streetwear for the first time in Thailand, with an entire collection designed exclusively for The Slate. For visitors who want to embark on a whimsical wellness journey, the Well-Being Bubbles programme will offer serene “art therapy” experiences, as Thai and international specialists use the resort’s artworks to enable deeply empowering therapies. State-of-the-art treatments also include VitaDrip®, a vitamin-infused intravenous therapy. Vibrations, a series of community-oriented cultural events, will also host its first episode in the fourth quarter of 2021.
The Slate is not only a haven of avant-garde art and design; it is also a centre of gastronomy with seven F&B outlets including Black Ginger, one of Thailand’s most iconic restaurants, which is recommended by the Michelin Guide, appears to float above a tranquil lagoon and is only accessible by raft. In this enchanting setting, the B.O.L.D. (Be Original, Light-hearted and Daring) culinary rendezvous will transport diners on a multi-sensory journey, infusing the finest flavours from land and sea in a series of exclusive epicurean events. The Slate’s own culinary goddess, Chef Anongrat “Piak” Meklai, will be joined by stars from a Michelin-starred restaurant to present the finest southern Thai cuisine in a stunning setting. This new event is expected to take place in the third quarter of 2021.
Then, as cross-border travel restrictions ease further in 2022, the resort is planning to resume its Artist in Residence partnership with Central Saint Martins, the acclaimed London art and design college.
“We have dearly missed our cherished international clientele and can’t wait to welcome them back to Thailand. To celebrate this milestone, we have prepared a selection of enticing events and activities that will showcase Phuket’s unique heritage through arts, crafts, gastronomy, wellness and more. This idyllic island has always been a dream destination for global explorers; we want guests to see a different side of Phuket and to experience everything that makes it so special,” said Khun Moo.
