This year is the Visit Nepal 2020 year. Tourism is a big business in Nepal. Coronavirus is the biggest threat to this business. Nepal had to restrict access to their country for 8 nationalities due to the threat of Corona Virus.Nepal authorities took an important step today to ensure the tourism business is there to stay. Nepal cannot afford an outbreak of COVID-19 and has been doing an excellent job keeping the virus out.
Today the Nepal Department of Immigration, Nepal canceled Visa-On-Arrival for China, Iran, Italy, South Korea, Japan, France, Germany, and Spain.
The reason is the latest number of Coronavirus cases in those countries. Nepal currently has no active COVID19 cases.
The Citizens from the eight countries can still enter Nepal with a visa issued by a Nepal consulate or embassy and a valid health certificate showing the foreign national is free of Coronavirus.
Only Kathmandu International Airport will be able to process visitors entering from the eight countries on the list.
For the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign, the government has developed new products which are divided into 5 clusters; i.e. Culture, Cities and Leisure, People and Heritage, Outdoor and Adventure, Religion and Pilgrimage, and Nature and Wildlife. To develop and promote all these sectors, one major hub for tourism will be marked and selected in every region where facilities like home-stays, community-based products will be boosted.
The government has also planns to make operational two more international airports in Nepal; Gautam Buddha Airport in Bhairahwa and Pokhara International Airport in Pokhara. The Tribhuvan International Airport has also been upgraded. Land transportation linking the neighboring countries, India, China, Bhutan, and Bangladesh have been improved. To improve the standard of services, different training and awareness programs have also been launched.
The Government of Nepal is working overtime to guarantee a successful tourism uptake in 2020. The Tourism Board has set an objective of attracting 2 million travelers in 2020.
